Advertising with City Cast allows you share your message with highly engaged, localized audiences who are passionate about news, culture, and their cities. You can advertise in any or all of the cities in our network, which include Chicago, Denver, Houston, Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Boise, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Portland, Madison, Austin, and Nashville. Here are City Cast’s current offerings:

Host-read podcast advertisements

A City Cast host will perform your advertisement, either as a pre-roll (up to 30 seconds) or mid-roll (up to 60 seconds). The host can perform it as written, or you can provide talking points and the host can put the ad in their own words. (For a lower rate, a City Cast producer will perform your advertisement, or you can provide us with your own creative.)

Podcast Sponsored Content

A unique City Cast offering. A City Cast staffer will interview someone from your organization about whatever you want to talk about. This interview will run as a segment within the City Cast podcast, for up to five minutes. It will be labeled as being sponsored by you, but it will feel like the rest of the podcast. This interview will offer you the opportunity to present your message at greater length and in the same format as the podcast, giving listeners the chance to connect with you in a way they couldn’t get from other forms of advertising and marketing. You can also reuse this interview yourself for your own marketing outside of City Cast. We can also pull out soundbites from the interview to create audiograms for your social channels.

Newsletter advertisement

An item will be included in the daily City Cast newsletter, up to 80 words. It can include a bold headline, a colored text box, and stylized type treatment. It will be labeled as: “From our sponsor, Your Company.” For a small extra fee, we can write the text using your talking points.

Full newsletter sponsorship

You’ll be the marquee sponsor of the newsletter for a week or more, with your name or logo in our header: “City Cast, Sponsored by Your Company.” You’ll also receive an item in the body of the newsletter, up to 80 words. It can include a bold headline, a colored text box, and stylized type treatment. For a small extra fee, we can write the text using your talking points.

Political Advertising Guidelines

Political advertising is an essential tool for candidates and political parties to reach out to potential voters and promote their agendas. However, political advertising can also be a source of controversy and conflict. City Cast accepts affirmative political advertising from candidates, campaigns, and political advocacy that align with civic engagement and civil, informed discourse.

Therefore, we have established guidelines to ensure that all political advertisements on our podcast, emails, and website comply with our policies and are free from any misrepresentation, false claims, or discriminatory content.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. All political advertisements must comply with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and state election laws.
  2. We reserve the right to reject any political advertisement that does not meet our eligibility criteria or conflicts with our editorial policies.

Content Guidelines

All political advertisements:

  1. Must clearly state who is sponsoring the advertisement, including the name and contact information of the sponsor.
  2. Must be factually accurate and not contain any misleading, deceptive, or false information.
  3. Must comply with our community standards and not contain any discriminatory or hate speech or attack other candidates.
  4. Must not contain the unauthorized use of another personʼs likeness/voice.
  5. Must not contain any content that promotes illegal activities or promotes violence.
  6. Must not contain any content that infringes on any intellectual property rights, including copyrights, trademarks, or patents.
  7. Must not include a direct fundraising ask.

Advertisement Placement and Disclosure:

  1. All political advertisements must be clearly labeled as a paid advertisement.
  2. Ad tags on digital units are not permitted.
  3. The person or group who paid for the advertisement must be clearly identified.
  4. Host/producer-read podcast ads, 5-minute Interview ads, and full-sponsored episode ads are not permitted.
  5. On dedicated emails, City Cast will include an editorial disclaimer alongside the candidate/groupʼs messaging.
  6. City Cast will disclose the total amount of money received for political advertising on our podcast, emails, or website to maintain transparency with our audience.
  7. We reserve the right to refuse or remove any political advertisement that violates our guidelines or is deemed inappropriate.

Fees and Payment:

  1. All political advertisements are subject to fees and payment, which will be determined based on the duration, size, and placement of the advertisement.
  2. All political advertisements must be paid in advance before the advertisement is placed.

We believe that political advertising is an essential component of the democratic process. However, we also recognize the responsibility that comes with publishing political advertisements. Therefore, we have established these guidelines to ensure that all political advertisements on our podcast, emails, and website comply with our policies and are free from any misrepresentation, false claims, or discriminatory content. We reserve the right to change or modify these guidelines at any time to maintain the integrity of our content and the trust of our audience.
